Movin’ On

Hey folks,

After 2 years, I’m hanging up my blogging shoes, and moving on.

This site was originally created to get me back into photography, as I had lost the passion and creativity in recent years. It definitely did the trick – I brought my camera with me everywhere, and with multiple posts a week, I feel like I refined my eye, and developed a new perspective.

But I also learned that I am, for better or worse, a social creature. And while I’m sure there are viewers out there, I wasn’t getting the feedback, via views, likes, or comments, that I needed to feel fulfilled, creatively. The blogging community I had heard so much about wasn’t reaching out to me. Maybe I wasn’t as involved as I should be? Maybe I needed to comment more on other posts, or use more tags, or add more text to my posts? Whatever the reason, I’ve decided to move on to the next chapter, and have joined instagram (@warblerific). So far, it’s been fun to explore the IG community, and widen my photographic repertoire beyond nature documentary, into a bit more of a discourse on life.

Thanks to all who supported me in this space, and who appreciated my small addition to the photo-blogging world. I hope I opened your eyes a little to the beauty of the natural world, and I hope I brought a little bit of happiness to your days. Who knows – I might just find myself back here some day.

Until then, live life to the fullest. There is so much beauty out there to appreciate, so many adventures to be had. Enjoy!

Until we meet again (maybe even on instagram!),
Theresa

Stretching

Stretching

I know ‘stretching’ might – in a very poetic sense – refer to the wings of the gull, as he reaches towards his dreams *sigh*.

But that’s not at all what I had in mind. If you knew me, you’d know my poetic side had a brief appearance in grade 7, in regards to a certain crush, and then it – gratefully – disappeared into oblivion. No, what I’m referring to is the fact that I’m posting yet another cloud shot, and how really, I’m not stretching the limits of my imagination. And that if I remain so 2-dimensional, I’m stretching the limits of my fans (yes, you!) to stay interested.

So I’ll try harder. I promise. There’s a whole world out there waiting to be explored – I just need to stop looking up, and start looking forward.

The Battle

The Battle

Who will win – the forces of good, or evil? If the amount of rain we’ve had this week is any indication, looks like darkness is the victor. Hopefully the sun (and all that is good) will prevail…and soon. My garden – and my mood – needs a hit of sunshine.

Playtime

Glad we headed to the park earlier this week – makes these rainy hours much more easily endured.

Inspiration: Eric Cahan

An incredible series of colour studies, all undoctored images taken of the sky.

Truly impressive, absolutely gorgeous.

Holga-ish

Ok, so I lied. I was a purist for the last 20 years of my photographic life. Now that I’ve started a blog, and am lacking in the (sometimes forced) daily creativity, I’m finding that there’s nothing at all wrong with post-processing. Especially when with one hit of a button, a quite bland quick shot of an airplane – the trees, clouds, flowers and bugs just weren’t jumping out at me today – can become something a lot more mysterious and powerful.

So I checked out wiki, and learned something new today. Holga is a toy camera that “often yields pictures that display vignetting, blur, light leaks, and other distortions.” In other words, taking your picture from bland to WHAM. Yes, in all caps, it’s that special. Why don’t you give it a whirl yourself?

Approaching storm

The sky was spectacularly fierce today, as a mighty storm was brewing. I sure do love me some crazy-looking clouds.

And while I am a photo purist at heart, preferring to leave my photos unedited, I started to play around a bit in Picasa, wanting to up the contrast a bit.

Pushed the ‘Holga-ish’ button. This is what happened.

Now THAT is a storm.

Stripes

Watchingitallunfold_stripes

Went for a walk in a local conservation area today, that has a great boardwalk through a marsh. Was struck by the dichotomy of the vertical and horizontal stripes. Nature’s plaid. Teehee.

Windblown

A watercolour painting created by nature.
This was in focus, but with a slow shutter speed, creating a blur effect. Cropped, but otherwise unaltered.
